IGCSE Maths tutor Singapore
IGCSE Maths tutors matched to the board, tier, and target grade.
One-to-one support for Cambridge 0580 and 0606 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1, with particular focus on the non-calculator papers, multi-step problems, and the habits that protect marks.
The course
What IGCSE Maths covers.
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 cover similar ground, but their papers, tiers, and grade scales differ. Cambridge also offers Additional Mathematics 0606 for strong students, which is a useful bridge to IB Math AA or A-level Mathematics.
Number
Fractions, percentages, ratio, standard form, bounds, and estimation, much of which must be done without a calculator on the Cambridge non-calculator papers.
Algebra and graphs
Expressions, equations and inequalities, sequences, functions, and graphs. Extended and Higher add quadratics in depth, algebraic fractions, and harder function work.
Geometry and mensuration
Angle properties, circle theorems, constructions, similarity, and areas and volumes of 2D and 3D shapes.
Trigonometry, vectors, and transformations
Right-angled trigonometry, sine and cosine rules, bearings, vectors, and transformations. Extended and Higher add 3D trigonometry and vector proofs.
Probability and statistics
Averages and spread, charts and diagrams, cumulative frequency, and probability, including tree diagrams and conditional probability at the higher tiers.
Additional Mathematics (0606)
Functions, quadratics, logarithms, trigonometric identities, vectors, binomial expansion, and an introduction to calculus, assessed separately from 0580.
Assessment
How IGCSE Maths is examined.
Cambridge 0580 students sit two papers on their tier, one without a calculator and one with. Edexcel 4MA1 students sit two calculator papers on the Foundation or Higher tier. Additional Mathematics 0606 is a separate Cambridge qualification with its own two papers.

Where marks go
Five places IGCSE Maths students commonly lose marks.
Most IGCSE Maths marks are lost through method and accuracy rather than unfamiliar topics. The patterns are consistent enough that targeted practice moves grades quickly.
Arithmetic without a calculator
The Cambridge non-calculator paper exposes weak fraction, decimal, and percentage work. Students used to checking everything on a calculator lose marks on otherwise easy questions.
Working that is not shown
Method marks are available even when the final answer is wrong, but only if the working is written down clearly. Answers that appear from nowhere often score nothing.
Accuracy rules
Answers should normally be exact or given to three significant figures, and angles to one decimal place. Rounding too early in a long calculation, or giving too few figures, costs marks.
Algebraic manipulation
Expanding, factorising, rearranging formulae, and solving simultaneous and quadratic equations underpin most of the paper. Small sign errors here cascade through whole questions.
Multi-step problems
Longer questions combine topics and do not say which method to use. Students who only practise one topic at a time freeze when they have to choose the approach themselves.
Tiers and grades
The tier decides the grades available.
Both boards set the paper a student sits by tier, and the tier limits the grades available. A student entered for Cambridge Core cannot achieve above a C, and an Edexcel Foundation entry is capped at grade 5, however well they perform.
Schools usually decide entries from mock results during the final year. If a student is close to the boundary, focused work before entries are confirmed can make the difference between the lower and higher tier.
How lessons work
A plan that follows the two-year course.
Number and algebra fluency
Build reliable non-calculator arithmetic and algebra, since every later topic depends on them, and close any gaps from earlier years.
Full coverage and mixed problems
Complete the syllabus for the tier, move to mixed-topic questions, and review mock results early enough to influence the tier decision.
Exam technique
Timed past papers on the correct board and tier, a review of every lost mark by type, and practice on the longest questions.
Tutor standards
What every tutor we match must do.
The exact course, not just the subject
A tutor is matched on the specific course and level, such as IB Math AA HL or Cambridge IGCSE 0620 Extended, and recent experience teaching it.
Teaches to the mark scheme
Lessons connect content to how marks are actually awarded: command terms, paper structure, and the errors examiners see most.
Diagnoses before teaching
The first lessons identify where marks are being lost, using the student's own recent work, before a plan is set.
Keeps parents informed
Families get short, specific updates: what was covered, what improved, and what comes next.
Academic honesty, always
Tutors teach the skills behind coursework and internal assessments. They never write or complete assessed work.
Fit reviewed early
The match is reviewed after the first few lessons, and the plan or approach is adjusted if it is not working.

Tuition rates
What IGCSE Maths tuition costs.
A practical market range for this kind of one-to-one tuition in Singapore is approximately S$35 to S$120 per hour. Extended, Higher, and Additional Mathematics support, and tutors with long experience of the exact syllabus, tend to sit in the upper part of the range. This is planning guidance, not a quotation; the exact rate is confirmed before lessons begin.

IGCSE Maths tuition FAQs
How much does IGCSE Maths tuition cost in Singapore?
As an indicative Singapore market guide, one-to-one tuition for this course commonly falls around S$35 to S$120 per hour. Tutors with long experience of the exact syllabus tend to sit in the upper part of that range. EliteMind confirms the tutor's exact rate before any lesson starts.
Should my child take Core or Extended?
Extended is the route for students aiming for grades A* to C and for anyone planning to take IB Math AA, A-level Mathematics, or a maths-heavy subject later. Core suits students for whom a secure C is the realistic goal. The school makes the final entry decision, usually after mocks.
Is Additional Mathematics worth taking?
For students who are comfortable with Extended Mathematics, 0606 is good preparation for IB Math AA HL or A-level Mathematics, because it introduces calculus, logarithms, and more advanced algebra. It adds workload, so it is best for students who are already secure in 0580.
How do Cambridge 0580 and Edexcel 4MA1 differ?
The content is similar, but Cambridge has a non-calculator paper and grades A* to G, while Edexcel 4MA1 allows a calculator on both papers and grades 9 to 1. A tutor should practise with past papers from the correct board and tier.
When are the IGCSE Maths exams?
Cambridge IGCSE exams run in May/June and October/November, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams mainly in May/June, with January sittings for some subjects. Most Singapore international schools enter students in May/June at the end of Year 11 or Grade 10, but the school's entry decides the date.
